This is not a tour; it is a highly technical expedition for the experienced mountaineer. The Grand Traverse is the first-ever full route connecting two of Oman’s most famous cave systems, requiring a grueling 16–18 hour commitment.
You will begin with the 200-meter vertical descent into the 7th Hole, navigate complex underground passages, and emerge into the Tahery Cave system, followed by a demanding exit hike.
This requires peak physical condition and proven proficiency in caving, rope work, and rugged hiking.
TRIP DETAILS
Caving
Technical Caving: Requires proven single-rope technique (SRT) proficiency. The trip involves the initial 200m abseil and navigation of tight underground sections, including some vertical and semi-vertical pitches.
Hike
The Ascent & Exit: The expedition culminates in a long, highly strenuous 4–6 hour hike back to the road from the Tahery Cave exit. Requires night hiking capability and serious mental endurance.
Location: Salmah Plateau. Located in a high-altitude area, easily accessed from the interior of Oman. This area is famous for its vertical cave systems
